Limits, errors & license

Rate limits per plan, what errors look like, and the terms the data comes with.

Rate limits

  • Free: 60 tool calls per hour per account.
  • Pro: 1,000 tool calls per hour per account.

Limits apply per account across all its OAuth clients and API keys, in fixed one-hour windows starting on the hour (UTC). Listing tools and protocol handshakes don’t count; only tools/call does.

Errors

  • HTTP 401: missing, expired or revoked token. OAuth clients refresh automatically; API-key users should check the key on the account page.
  • Tool result with isError: true: the request was valid but couldn’t be answered. The text explains why: an unknown id, a Pro tool on a free account, or the hourly limit with its reset time.
  • Invalid arguments: the MCP layer rejects arguments that don’t match the tool’s schema before the tool runs.

License & attribution

The tiers follow the NNN Data License:

  • Current-state data (free tools) is licensed CC BY 4.0. Use it anywhere, with attribution to Nuclear News Network.
  • History and the relationship ledger (Pro tools) are provided under the NNN Data License Terms. Journalism, research, citation and AI answering are permitted with attribution. Systematic bulk extraction, redistributing the dataset, and embedding it in commercial products or training corpora need a commercial license.
  • Underlying facts are facts. NNN’s rights cover the compilation: selection, structure, curation and verification.
